Gui problems with Kali Linux

Hey everyone,

I downloaded Kali Linux onto my laptop but it says that there was an error downloading the software so I'm stuck with the text based terminal instead of the GUI. It says that gdm has no installation candidate when I try to install gdm gnome.

What would y'all suggest?

If there was an error on the download, there's good chance that the install *.iso file is faulty in some way. In that case, your best option would be to redownload the *.iso and start over.

Did you do an md5sum check on the downloaded *.iso.

The Kali site explains verifying the download at the site below so, as asked above did you do that?

https://www.kali.org/docs/introducti...-linux-images/

After downloading, how did you write the iso file to a DVD or USB, what software or method did you use?

On the Kali page, it has a section Which image should I install. Which did you select and which options? If you haven't read that documentation, that would be a good place to start.

Welcome to LQ. As an FYI, Kali is not really geared to people new to Linux or UN*X Type systems. Plus you can get applications that come with Kali installed while using just about any distro.

Please review this if you are new to Linux:
