Using gtkam as user

I am having trouble using gtkam as a user. As root I can identfy the camera and download pictures. As user I just get error messages saying that the camera cannot be detected. I have referred to the gphoto2 docs and suspect that the problem revolves around permissions and hal. Any tips on how to configure this?

I am using using 5.9 Standard. The camera is a Fuji Finepix 40fd and connects via PTP.

Thanks.

Had this identical problem on a vector install, used google and found this link:

applying the 'patch' (overwriting the rules file) did the job.

Great. Thanks for the note. This is the sort of thing I thought it would be but do not understand why this isn't more of a universal issue for others. We cannot be the only people trying to connect a digital camera to Vector? Surely others must have been there before us?

For others that might experience similar difficulties this is a step by step guide:

1. Plug in usb digital camera and turn it on in download mode.
2. Open a shell and type
Code:
cat /proc/bus/usb/device
3. You should be able to see the camera details from the output. You need the Vendor= and ProdID= details. In my case Vendor=04cb and ProdID=01c5.
4. As root open the file /etc/udev/rules.d/30-libphoto2.rules and search for the vendor ID eg in my case 04cb. This list devices from that manufacturer, but not your device.
5. Copy one of the lines that contain the vendor ID and insert your relevant vendor and product IDs into the copied line.
6. Save the file and reboot.

That's it. When you plug your camera in as a user it will work
