I just installed linux and a password has been created. I have no idea what it is. I sure don't want to go through the install again, but I cannot access the program. Can anyone give me a simple soloution?
Did you create a user ? If you did not, it will have a root user. If you did not set a password, I believe it will be a blank password. If you did create a user, but did not create a password, try the user name and a blank password field.
If you did not create a user, try "root" (without the quotes, and in lower case) in the user field and just press enter. If this gets you a desktop, then you need to create one user with a password. That is done by root with the adduser command. Depending on the distro, some provide gui applications to add users, and control passwords. You should also set a root password. One of the benifits of linux is its secruity. If you run without passwords, you take the chance of some one destroying your installation, or stealing your data.
If you have created a user, but do not know the password now, it can be cleared without re-installing. User passwords are easier to clear than a lost root password.
While you are answering the above, I'll have a look around to find out how, its been a long time since I lost control of my passwords.
