Netgear USB wireless probs

I have a Netgear WG111v2 USB wireless adapter which I am trying to get up and running on my Vector Linux 5.8 SOHO RC2 box.

I have followed the instructions in "Wireless Networking : Read this first" on the VL forum -and I have successfully installed the Windows XP driver from the Netgear website into ndiswrapper as well as editing the appropriate files as instructed

Unfortunately I am unable to link up with my wireless router and I would be grateful for any advice you can offer. Below I have given you some of the relevant outputs

root:# cat /etc/modprobe.conf
# /etc/modprobe.conf (old location for Linux 2.6+ config)
#
# The use of this config file is deprecated if you are using a
# 2.6.x or newer kernel. Instead, create files in the
# /etc/modprobe.d/ directory containing modprobe options.
#
# For more information, see "man modprobe.conf".

I hope the above outputs are helpful - I am uncertain as to wether I have correctly edited the ifplugd.comf file.
Again thanks for any advice

Have you tried to connect to another wireless router perhaps in a cafe somewhere?

Because it looks like the computer sees the nic but not the network.

Also check the bands on which each network device is broadcasting. Because the nic maybe broadcasting on one band and the router could be broadcasting on another.

Hi Thorn,

Thanks for the advice. Apologies but I should have put another post in to say I have solved the problem.

Basically linked to the Windows XP driver not working. I removed it and put in the Windows 98 driver from the Netgear website and now works perfectly

Vector Linux is a great little distro.
