How to make desktop icons

How are all the desktop icons that are shortcuts to various applications made with Vector?

I did it with KDE. Is there a similar method? I notice that if I right click an existing one, that there's a create function available, but were do they come from if there's not already one there? Is there an application that makes them?

Using Slackware I just right-click the desktop and choose "Create Launcher". From there I enter the name, the command and browse for the icon of choice.

I've got something working.

The application to run is dfm. It has a man page so man dfm has lots of information.

There's a hidden home directory folder called .dfmdesk

If I put a file, or a link, or an executable file, in there, it shows up on the desktop with a generic icon. Then right clicking the icon lets me browse for a specific icon to replace the generic one.
