Change resolution

Vector 4.0. How can I go back after installation and reset the resolution. I set it correctly during install but it appears to have defaulted to 640, BIG! VASM won't let me do it. /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 I edited. Took 640 out then I couldn't start X. Reinstalled the whole thing again and set to 800x600 and I'm right back where I started, 640 whatever, BIG. Down to that and the sound and is all done. I ran "damnsmall" and tried different settings and 800x600 by 32 bit looked the best. Thanks in advance.

ok, the config file is XF86Config-4

Make sure that your Horizontal sync rate is 31 - 107. If its too low it will not allow anything over 600 x 800

Mine looks like this:

Code:
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Monitor0"
        VendorName "HWP"
        ModelName "HWP22ce"
        HorizSync 30 - 107 # DDC-probed
        VertRefresh 50 - 150 # DDC-probed

Thanks for the replies. I changed "HorizSync" to 30-107 as suggested but it didn't help. However, looking futher under "Section Screen" "Modes" are 640x480. Should I change this to 800x600?

change to look like this ... this should give you some choices to play with. Leave the sync at 30-107 as well.

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640X480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

I edited the way you indicated and it boots to "mynamelogin:Starting up X11 session Manager", and that's it, black screen. Same thing last time I edited it. Had to reinstall unless there's a command at boot that'll restore it.

try removing the 1280x1024 your monitor may not support it, and do a search on google for you monitors refresh rates.

as Kinasz states, it is a monitor thing now. Good news is, its working though. We know that you are in the right place and that it is reading your XF86Config-4 file correctly. get rid of the highest resolution and try again.
