Question Where are Ubuntu live apps stored without persistence?

In a live boot I install apps. Do they only exist in ram or are they written to the boot medium for that session?

Usually, just run from ram - switch off, & they are gone!

in a live session usually nothing written back to the boot device, that is read only. But there can be exceptions.

Good to know. I am going to try my luck with standalone apps (browsers, etc).

Limited user accounts tend to cause execution conflicts, but if the boot is read-only I'll run apps as root if I have to.
