what is your favorite backup program?

I installed Sbackup from synaptic. Now I am wondering if there are better backup programs for Ubuntu(I did read favorite backup solution poll in "find similar threads).

I just need something very basic. I plan on doing thr backups manually about once per week, so I don't need anything too fancy or with too many options. What's your favorite? (tar doenn't count). Thanks in advance.

repo, Thank you for your reply. Those links came in very handy. Sbackup didn't even make the count. I found something called lucky backup, a gui for rsync, and I will give that a look. Thanks again.

There is also grsync, which is also a GUI front end for rsync in case you would prefer that.
Note that rsync is installed by default in Ubuntu, while grsync is available in the Ubuntu repos.
Here is a tutorial on rsync:

I have found that the man page for rsync is exceptionally well written. It has lots of examples to help you learn how to use rsync.

tomcd, thank you. grsync looks good, and I have downloaded it and installed via Synaptic. I will be taking a close look at it, but it seems like what I am looking for. Thanks again.

on a related topic what do you actually back up. I used to have a list but that went with the old distro. Definitely /home/joe, /etc, what else?

I just back up my data. I have never bothered to back up system files in /etc, or anywhere else. I suppose if you have a lot of program customizations in /etc, then it would be good to back up those files in /etc in case you ever restore your operating system.
