I guess first thing to do is file a bug report because this is not normal or good for this system. Maybe they will know exactly what this is a pnd what to do. I also think they may want that large file. If I can I would prefer to be able to delete that whole /media/novel/UbuntuFilesXE folder because it may interfere if I ever use a USB with that name. Anyway, filing bug report and may go from there.

Thanks @Michaelk. X E.

You made it yourself. You tried to use rsync to make a backup on a removable drive at /media/norvel/UbuntuFilesXE while the removable drive was not mounted. And you forgot to add -x to the rsync command and so you tried to backup the /proc file system, for example /proc/1/pagemap.

Weird memory with 221GB was before I burned out that USB. It happenned when I formatted and reformatted, I am sure. Also, bug report filed against gnome-disk-utility. X E.

Actually, by memory I am unsure now, I think it was burn out USB, reinstall OS, certainly check system, all 31GB, reformat some, certain I checked then and it was 251GB, then simple home directory backup. I am unsure now whether USB burnout was on previous OS or after reformatting, mostly certain it was on previous OS and if it was not, I noticed that 251GB memory usage BEFORE burnout certainly and I am certain I checked disk usage when I installed like my new OS right after installing like my programs. I know it was 31GB. Maybe I should put this in bug report though. X E.

I agree with Petri Kaukasoina.

I read your bug report and without having any previous knowledge of your problem I would not have a clue. To be blunt, I would be surprised if anyone actually responded to the bug report. If I don't know what you actually mean by burnout or overload how do you expect the Ubuntu developers to understand or take you seriously.

I don't know what programs you installed but the minimum requirements for Ubuntu is 25GB of storage and I have installed Ubuntu many times as a virtual machine with only a 25GB virtual disk drive. I don't know what you restored or backed up to use ~200GB of storage.

After installing all like my programs, it was about 35GB, that as mounted was what I was trying to back up. I changed it to "opinion" anyway since I can't remember. I now know that all USB operations were AFTER reinstalling OS. I am unsure when I checked and which try to reformat it was, there were 2. Based on what others are saying and memory, it was probably reformat no check, burn out, reformat another, check. Unsure what order actually in so I guess only if checking logs can I get actual certainty. I was also backing up some small programs, less than 1MB total. I am certain it was all less than .1TB. X E.

A list of programs I had installed are Android Studio snap version, Ruby via rbenv, Ruby2d, Swift programming language, InteliJ IDEA community edition, Muse Score 2, Muse Score 3, Camera (a snap), KBreakOut, KBounce, KVM stuff recommended for Android Studio virtualization, XAMPP, Kate, Sublime Text (snap), and default installed apps. I think that is most to all of them. X E.

Well... to quote your "bug report"...
Quote:
I think nothing to see here except like my own stupidity and lack of memory. All as per one might be maybe or might not be maybe, maybe or maybe not, maybe.
May I suggest you start from scratch again, but this time make sure to write down each and every step very carefully.

Then maybe - just maybe - someone would be able to make any sense of this mess...

Or maybe not

If you read /proc/1/pagemap, you get a pretty large file.
Code:
# dd if=/proc/1/pagemap of=/dev/null
536870911+1 records in
536870911+1 records out
274877906936 bytes (275 GB, 256 GiB) copied, 775.065 s, 355 MB/s
I suggest removing the directory /media/norvel/UbuntuFilesXE and forget it.

Here is like my plan, back up all on that computer, try to delete /media/novel/UbuntuFilesXE, if it works then delete on USB I backed up with too. That way I keep all like my data. I will also run like my timestamps recorder. I consider this solved, thanks Michael and everyone else. X E.

I'm sorry, but you really can't pretend like you don't know that adding this text at the end annoys people. People had already asked you several times to stop in this thread.

Even the two letters is pushing it, in my opinion...

Anyway, solved, and pushing it or not, it is either push it and get help and post or do not post and therefore do not get help in like my opinion. X E.
