upgrade to 7.10 via terminal

I have Ubuntu 6.10, and want to upgrade to 7.10. I have the install CD, but it claims there is a problem with my hdd, which may just be a glitch...

When I go to update manager, it only says I can upgrade to 7.04, which of course I cant do cause they don't support the upgrades to it anymore.

So, simply put, how do I upgrade to 7.10 in a terminal?

It's not something I've tried to do, but why not upgrade to 7.04, then when that's done, upgrade to 7.10 from that.

However, if your HDD's not quite right, it's probably worth doing a clean install anyway.

I don't think you actually read my thread. It won't let me upgrade to 7.04 from the upgrade manager. Wherever the files used to be located, they aren't there anymore. And my hard drive is not bad at all. I just did a binary shred on it, and a full block check with no errors. Please read my post.

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you meant that they don't support 7.04, therefore you didn't want to upgrade.

AFAIK, ubuntu still support versions from 6.10 onwards, but you can only upgrade in stages.

Here are their instructions for upgrading 6.10 to 7.04:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyUpgrades

From 7.04 to 7.10:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GutsyUpgrades

And their general notes re. updating from older versions than 7.04:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...FromOldVersion

Hope this helps

Edit:
If the files are no longer available for download, then it looks like a clean install may be your only option, sorry I can't help any more than this.

Here, also from the Ubuntu website, are instructions to upgrade manually.

They recommend, as do I, that you not do this, however, as there is a much higher chance of breaking some dependencies.
