I can login as usual in any of the other terminals (meaning Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6) and I could verify my data is fine.
I tried booting from a previous version of lubuntu (from grub) and fixing it, and also trying to fix it from a live CD, but so far I've been unsuccessful.
Could anybody provide a solution to this problem? If nothing works, I'll consider wiping the linux partition and installing lubuntu 13.10 or 13.04 from scratch, but I would like to avoid it.
Ps: I'm not really a hardcore Linux user, so please excuse me if anything came out wrong or if I'm missing something obvious.

Sounds like you are doing all right. Thinking about what to do before doing things.
Sometimes the obvious are not thought about though. So some questions;
A>When you logged in at the tty login (your first 6 tty consoles) did you try the command;
?
This should have done something and hopefully put you on your desktop.
B>Did you try booting to recovery mode? This should leave you at a root prompt in the retarded Ubuntu way of doing things. With this you could run and update/upgrade cycle and see if anything happens. If there are some packages upgraded it may help. If they refuse to upgrade there will be helpful error messages.
Recovery mode should be in your grub screen menu. If it is not just hit the e key to edit the default menu entry. Remove "quite splash" from the instruction string and replace with "single". That will be the same as recovery mode. The edit is not permenant. Hit Ctrl + x to boot from your edited menu entry.
By the removal of the "quite" you are booting in verbose mode and more things are checked by the boot process. Because some of these processes are self correcting simply booting to recovery mode is enough to fix a problem. Often enough that it should be tried for most things anyway as it doesn't take long. It also should generate better boot logs so reasons for the failure may be easier to find.
If you can get to your desktop there is no reason in the world to reinstall. If you can get to the desktop the problem is strictly with your login manager. I am not sure what you are using but it is probably lightdm. Not sure what the package name on that is either.
If you can get to your desktop but still don't get a login screen, reboot to recovery and, at the root prompt, run;
Code:
apt-get purge <package name for login manager>
then
Code:
apt-get install --reinstall <package name for login manager>
No need for sudo. You are at a root prompt (#) sudo is for you to pretend to be root at a user prompt ($). This should dump the package and reinstall and configure the package. When that is done simply use the command;
[code]
reboot
[code]
and see if you get a login screen. Should be there.
