Go to http://www.ubuntu.com/download choose a mirror in your country and look at the list of isos. You want the one with "powerpc" in the name.

Don't forget to try out Xubuntu as well, if Ubuntu seems too slow for your machine. I have an iBook G3 700MHz running Xubuntu nicely. And welcome!

thanks for the advice on the imac and ubuntu. I downloaded the cd for ppc which seemed to be for the live session. However, it seems that the imac does not recognize it as the imac does not boot to the iso cd on which i burned the download.

Any suggestions?

probably you need to hold down c or option+c when booting if you havent done that ... if you are still having problem with booting ubuntu under ppc , below are a few link i found on the net which may help you ::

http://pinguin.uni-psych.gwdg.de/~ih...buntu_on_iBook

http://cmr.forestfactory.de/ibook/li...ook_linux.html
scrolldown to the bottom for more ppc links ...

//forget about all these if you successfully install ubuntu on ppc ...

Ubuntu on imac

Ive had success with the ALT installer 606 ppc disc.
Mine is a 350 slotloader.
Holding down the ALT key at post, choose the disc to boot.
installed with 128m ram,but running 256m now,rumor has it
will read 1gb-woohoo!
Upgraded to 704 beta
Not ready for primetime, back to stable.
What an improvement over OSX
A big THANK YOU goes out to UBU!
GOOD DOG!
