Ubuntu is GREAT !!!!

I just joined Linux Questions forum today. This is my first post.

I downloaded and installed Ubuntu on advice from a friend I know as Mean Roy.

I have downloaded and installed a few different distros. But they were always difficult to find answers for questions, and even more difficult to find answers to fix problems. With Ububntu, I had a couple of problems, but was able to figure out how to fix or found answers in their FAQs. that was a first for me, with Linux. It is not experience with Linux that helped me solve the problem, because I still have troubles with my Mandrake distro. But I'll figure that out later. Right now, I plan to learn Linux with UBUNTU!!!

Thanks a whole lot for the excellent advice and help, Mean Roy.

I will surely bring more questions to this forum as time goes by.

Donny

Hey man, welcome to LQ! Glad to hear you've had a good time so far with Ubuntu. I switched from mandrake to Debian (Ubuntu is based on Debain if you didn't know) and I have found it to be much less of a headache. Hope all goes well!

Thanks

I did not know that. Maybe, I'll put Debian on another machine. I might like it better than Mandrake or Redhat.

Thanks.

i got the 2006 beta of mandrake(mandriva) and i have to say i like it alot better than the other versions but by far the 2 i like the best are Fedora Core 4 (redhats trial and error os) and ubuntu. i would like ubuntu alot more if breezy was stable. glad to hear your enjoying linux i love it and i hated winblows b4 but the more i use linux the more i hate winblows. good luck with linux.

Also my first post.

Also my first (real) experience with Linux. Ubuntu seems to be perfect for a starter.

I had it installed on my home server (apache2, ssh and ftp server) and work laptop. Everything is working pretty ok.

And I am in love with SSH, I don't know how I could live without it for so long!

Cheers to Linux!

I also am going to be a convert to Ubuntu. I just tried the Ubuntu LIVE CD and it was pretty amazing! I have been using Mandriva (formerly Mandrake) since 9.1. Mandriva is also great, but it seems easier grabbing new software for it than Mandriva. Additional, Ubuntu was able to detect my wireless networking card on my laptop AND automagically connect to my Windows server 2003 with an Active directory and domain.

Looking forward to installing it on my laptop and seeing you all in this new community! I'm sure I'll have some basic questions and will need all your help

Thank you
