Ubuntu doesn't load GUI

I just installed Breezy Badger 5.10. I got done with the install, and it doesn't load GUI. I tried startx (with sudo)...it says it can't find it. Do I have to download something or configure something. I'm kind of a Linux newbie, so be gentle with the answers Thanks in advance

Did you tell it to install "server" when the CD booted?

It's been a while since I installed ubuntu but i do not remember it asking to install gnome, i thought it was included in the default desktop install. Now if you told it to setup a server, i do not think it installs any window managers/desktop environments.

You can try

#sudo apt-get install gnome

hopefully it will also grab all the required things like xorg and so forth.

I reinstalled with the full install. It still doesn't load Gnome. When I try sudo startx, I get a "Connection refused (errno 111). Unable to connect to X server. Am I just doing it wrong?

I did a: dpkg --configure -a
That worked. Loaded Gnome on the next reboot.

user not authorized to run the X server

I get "user not authorized to run the X server, aborting" after typing "startx". How do I fix this?
