Ubuntu 22.04: No Audio from Wired Headphones, Detected as 'USB Audio' in Sound Settings
Hey guys, I've been experiencing an issue with my headphones on Ubuntu where I'm not getting any sound output. I've tried several troubleshooting steps with no success and I'm hoping someone here might have faced a similar issue or has a potential solution.
System Details:
Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS
Motherboard: ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming WiFi
Headphone Model: SteelSeries Arctis 7P
Issue:
When I plug in my wired headphones into the PC's analog jack, Ubuntu recognizes them as "Headphones - USB Audio" in sound settings. I find this odd since it's not a USB connection. Despite being listed and selected as the output device, I get no sound from them. Could the way it is being identified be the issue?
Steps Already Taken:
1. Checked pavucontrol. Under "Playback", it shows "Firefox: AudioStream on: USB Audio Analog Stereo". The only other device listed in the output devices is "HDA NVidia DigitalStereo (HDMI)".
2. Headphones work perfectly on other devices (my PS5 remote) and even on my Windows OS on the same PC.
3. No other USB audio devices are connected. GPU and monitor (without speakers) are the only other devices.
4. Checked alsamixer and ensured that no channels are muted and volumes are up.
5. Played audio from different applications besides Firefox.
6. Rebooted multiple times, once with the headphones plugged in.
Additional Notes:
I don't use any USB-to-3.5mm adapter. The headphones are plugged directly into the PC's headphone jack.
The headphones worked without issue on another device, and even on the same PC with my Windows boot.
I've also tried a pair of Turtle Beach headphones, which face the same issue on Ubuntu but work perfectly on my Windows boot.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
