Trying trick install on Ubuntu 10.04

I have 10.04 installed on my 320 gig. SATA hdd and i have an 80 gig IDE that I want to install Mepis on but i do not want to upset my boot order. Can I install the Mepis and later update grub so as to have Ubuntu as my default?

That's how my hdd is setup.
My wins was setup on sda,
Debian on sdb. I was leary on installing while both drives were connected, so I did my second os without other drive connected, then updated grub.

I will tell you that when I suggested in another post, they frown upon it. so I'm not going to say that it is an appropriate way to do it, but do so at your own choosing.

I'd have to assume that mepis allows you to install it's bootloader to it's partition.

I always install any other distros bootloader to their partitions.

Running
Code:
sudo update-grub
from ubuntu should then find them.

If it's not found then you can create a custom grub entry in grub2 to allow booting the other install.

Edit - a quick look at a mepis install page http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.p...RUB_Bootloader

Install grub to root rather than MBR and you should get it added to ubuntu's grub with the update grub command
