I use an old hp4 laser jet for my main printer. I would like to have an all in one ink jet for use in scanning, faxing, and the rare color print and as a backup general printer. Looking for mid line aio that is recognized in kubuntu 6.10. I am a newbie and have not yet learned how to do intricate installs. If you have one of these beast running please reply.
Just my opinion, but I don't like the all in one things. If one of the things break, doesn't work, or has no drivers, then what do you do? But I'm no expert. I have trouble getting a network printer to work with linux.
Edit; Good to see another Atlantan on the forum.

HP is a very good choice. Have used many over the years undr Linux plus other OSes like OS/2 and others. Currently have HP3310 connected directly to the network. No need for a machine to be on to use. Putting any printer on a print server should work with say a HP print server.
After trying two different brands I bought a hp all in one. It has the best linux driver support. Being honest the print quality is not as good as one of the other brands but the problem is the other brand has no adaptable driver for linux.
HP PSC 1410 works well for me but there's a newer model available for the low end. With Ubuntu 7.10 this HP was automatically detected. I find little to no use for a fax machine. Emailing a scanned file provides the same kind of FAX output some require. e.g. signed forms.
