slowness

ok i have ubuntu installed and seems to be working great... i really like this distro so far....

the one problem i am having right now.... is that when i am browsing the web (using firefox) it seems rather slow at rendering pages compaired to using I.E. in Win XP... any ideas? should i use mozilla instead?

oh one more thing... what is this GUI that it uses as default?

For your browsing, check with another browser to see if it's Mozilla / Firefox - if so, maybe read through this http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=258042

As for the default window manager, Ubuntu uses Gnome. You can install KDE if you wish through the repositories, or a side-arm is Kubuntu, which installs Ubuntu but with KDE as default

Nah, you can just

Code:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
(or use Synaptic to install the kubuntu-desktop package)

log out and choose KDE from the login screen.
