Slow wireless connection speed on Thinkpad x230 using UbuntuMATE 22.04.2
Hi, I have this issue where while having a normal connection speed in download and upload about ~800 Mb/s and ~300 Mb/s tested with any wireless device, my laptop reaches a max download speed of ~15 Mb/s and upload speed ~20 Mb/s by standing in front of my modem.
The wireless network card product name and driver with firmware version shown by lshw -c network are
product: Centrino Wireless-N 2200
version: c4
driver= iwlwifi
driverversion=5.19.0-35-generic
firmware=18.168.6.1 2000-6.ucode
I've also been experiencing this issue with my previous distro, Ubuntu 22.04.
Add: I don't know if it would be better to try a new Wi-Fi card for 10 bucks or a new laptop for 200? lol My IBM T20 (thrift store now with Debian\Sid\CLI) has issues with USB so (if I can't fix it as needed or) if something else goes wrong I'll be recycling it... Reason: tibo
I suggest searching reviews on frameworks not on their website regarding the quality. If you want a laptop I suggest a thinkpad t460s from 2016 or thinkpad t520. I own both of them. Look on ebay if possible.
I think NDISwrapper is still a thing too, if the original poster is still around and feels like experimenting with different drivers? Though Debian probably has the best there but even cutting edge or experimental is limited by hardware?
Noticing the warranty there and again the price of the card, might be worth trying a new one or even a usb wifi compatible with Linux cost less than $20?
I used NDISwrapper in the years 90 to 2000 to install window drivers on Ubuntu 6.04 back in the day. The only drivers that are supported are windows XP. Win7 and win8 drivers are not supported. I suggest you try the drivers from my first link.
Debian already has them (from my first link) plus consider the package managers* handle them best. Don't think the windows drivers would make much difference but worth a shot... tho again who are we talking to; guess I wouldn't call two months necroposting?

The link below instructs the installing wifi drivers. Your wifi card is in this list would not hurt to try to reinstall it. This wifi has been supported since kernel 3.2. Food for thought this wifi had slow issues even in windows 7 back in the day.
