Questions about possible migration

Currently I use Mandrake, I have had troubles updating it and program crashes. I am considering switching to Debian. I use my computer as a desktop pc and I am considering the SID install because I want cutting edge more than stability. I am sure it will be "Stable" enough for me. The question I am getting at is the Ubuntu question or more appropriatly for me the Kubuntu question. Isn't ubuntu/kubuntu the same as Debian just upgraded to the fullest. Also I heard the package list is more limited in Ubuntu than Debian. I kind of think Debian SID, would be more Stable than messing with Kubuntu and trying to get it the way I want.

What say u?

Thanks
Kezz
