problems with Ubuntu in the past

Ok, I last spring I installed Ubuntu and it messed up my MBR, I'm new to linux and was looking for something easy and stable, something that would allow me to lessen my dependency on MS Windows. So you can see where my problem is, it totally screwed my system up and I had to reinstall windows. I'm not a total dumb-ass when it comes to computers and I thought the install progress went smoothly but I was unable to boot into either of the operating systems. Does anyone have an idea on why this would happen and if there is a way to prevent this. I was trying the newest release at the time, which was 5.04. I want to give Ubuntu another try since a lot of people seem to find it to be a great piece of programming work. What I don't want, is for the install to mess up my MBR again and thus causing me some pain, I have had to reinstall windows far too many times in my short duration of computer use (around 8 years now) to ever want to do it again, its not a fun process. Thanks for any help, if you need more info just let me know.

It's very difficult to mess up if you follow these directions.

Thanks for that link man, it worked perfectly and I am now running Ubuntu Breezy Badger and loving it. Its way better than SuSE so far. This is what I was looking for in a distribution in the first place.

Glad you're happy with Ubuntu - it is very slick now and definately on par if not better than SuSE in a number of areas! Not quite sure how the MBR could have been damaged, but is usually fairly easy to repair without having to resort to wiping everything. Least things are going now. Have fun!
