Problem with switch session using same user account on Ubuntu/Kubuntu

Hi,

I've been using the Ubuntu (V6.06) and Kubuntu desktops for a little over a year and have setup a laptop with both desktops installed. By using the switch session option I'm able to choose whether I'll login to KDE (Kubuntu) or Gnome (Ubuntu). While logged in to Kbuntu I tried to switch to using Ubuntu while still logged into the other session. I'm getting past the initial splash screen for Ubuntu but get no further (rebooting doesn't help). The Kbuntu session works fine and my other user account still works with both desktops. The problem is only with the original user account.

Is there a configuration file for session manager that I can change to solve the problem?

Thanks, Ed (reformed Windows lan admin)

its a bit drastic but I would rename the .gnome and .kde folders to .gnome.old .kde.old for the /home/ of the user having the problem.
