Angry network configuration problem on kubuntu


i installed kubuntu..
while configuring network connections
i am writing gateway but after click apply and ok
then re enter the network configurations the gateway is gone..
and cant connect to internet...
help me pls..

That's the best anyone can do without some useful information about your network hardware, type, configuration, etc...

thanks guy

installed my connection to other distros....
they mounted all my hard dirives...and partitions
but kubuntu is a shit...
now i can not switch to root mode from kde control panel..
i click to admin mod entering password but i doesnot switch admin mode..
i read the reviews and uninstalled my suse and installed kubuntu but...
kubuntu worthes nothing..

Yes there are a few bugs in Kubuntu. The first is the network one you mention. For whatever reason it fails to remember your default gateway. This doesn't seem to be hardware dependent either. Nice easy fix though. Set up your network through the KDE tools as you would normally and then come out of it. Open a konsole and cd to /etc/network. Then type

sudo vi interfaces

and add the following line

gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (replace the x's with your gateway address)

I found it easier to reboot than to try and stop and start the network manually.

Couple of other problems I've noticed so far. The Kuser tool seems unstable crashing when trying to reset passwords and other things. I have also had the same problem you mentioned earlier where it refused to take the gui into admin mode. The work around for this is to start the program from the command line i.e.

sudo konqueror or whatever.

thanks for your help...
i think ubuntu does not have this bugs..
the bugs should be removed in RC step of kubuntu but i think it will develop more better in future
