Lost Win XP files

I am a Linux newbie, using Ubuntu. My win Xp computer crashed and I need the files on it (Pictures and documents). Can I use the Live Ubuntu cd (Dapper Drake) to access the files? I believe they are in FAT. If not what else can I do?

yea
I can view my windows from linux via FAT.

Check out 'my computer'

click then one of the three options, you should know it when you see it, since you paritioned the drive I take it.

Why can't you fix your windows install?
And what if NTFS? Then you'll have to get ntfs support.
Is it multiboot or two different systems?

Lost Xp files
.I finally pulled the hard drive and installed it as a slave on another computer and retrieved my files that way.
It was a single boot install and I could not repair the install as it was in a BSOD loop and it would'nt even boot into safe mode.
