kernel panic - no syncing unable to mount root fs on unknown-block


hi all,
i am getting the error msg as follows when i run my own kernel ,


kernel panic - no syncing unable to mount root fs on unknown-block


it my pc info :
ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, stripped

What does this mean ?please someone can help me to solve the problem ?

Greetingz!

"unable to mount root fs on unknown-block"
Means you need to compile-in (or build an initrd) support for your hard drive controller (or whatever your trying to boot your kernel on).

Here is how to update the initrd on Ubuntu:

sudo update-initramfs -u -v -k `uname -r`
