kde programs start error, related to dcopserver

Hi,

I found a common problem when I wanna start KDE programs, such as Kile or Quanta.

If I start them as a common user, without sudo, it will pop-up a new windows like the attachment. It says:

There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:

Could not read network connection list.
/home/forrest/.DCOPserver_flavia_1

Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!

After I click OK on this window and later few windows, the program is terminated.

But if I start them as superuser, it seems ok.

How can I fix this problem? What is the DCOPserver?

Thanks.

On Ubuntu Feisty.

Look at the hidden files in your home directory. Look for root owned files.

What is the DCOPserver?

from: http://developer.kde.org/documentation/other/dcop.html
...enable interprocess communication between KDE applications...

i'm not sure if finding root files in your home directory will fix your problem, but it's worth a try. in a terminal, type "sudo konqueror" (without quotes). go to your home directory then enable "Show Hidden Files" in the "View" menu option (View>>Show Hidden Files). if you click on "View>>View Mode>>Tree View it will give extra information, such as WHO OWNS THE FILE! if any of those files are owned by "Root" simply RIGHT CLICK on them and select "Properties>>Permissions" and at the bottom of the popup window change the "Owner" AND "Group" to your ID.

sorry for all the formatting, i was just trying to make it easy to see and follow the steps.

i hope you have lots of success with this this. keep up posted.

I know what to do now.
I run a "sudo chmod 0777 ~/.kde -R" and everything is OK.
