how to do
Trying to work out your system here. A little confusing with the available information. Could you tell me the following please. Assuming you do have a /dev/sda3 partition, which of /sda1, /sda3, /sda5 and /sda6 are primary and which are extended or logical partitions. I gather /sda1 and /sda5 are windows partitions, since you referred to them as c: and d: respectively -- ubuntu doesn't use c: and d:. Is this true? It appears from your description, that your /sda5 is already reserved for use by windows and is not available for use by a linux system. Does /sda3 show up anywhere as an extended partition? If so an extended partition acts as an envelope to hold one or more logical partitions. If that's the case, then /sda6 would possibly be either a primary (on its own) or a logical (mounted in an extended) partition. I might be able to help if you give me a bit more information. One other possible problem could be, that /sda3 is where you have mounted the operating system, from which you are trying to do this partitioning work. If that is the case, then your /sda3 partition is mounted by your in-use operating system. You cannot work on a partition, which is at that time already mounted. It will need to be unmounted first. You could do this, by the use of a live cd of ubuntu or by downloading gparted-live from the gparted.org website, copying the .iso file to a cd and auto-running on startup, if your system is set to boot from a cd first. I'll await a bit more info here on the points I've asked about above.. Cheers, Thane
