Hello,
I've installed RealPlayer 10, and am trying to get it to function as default audio player for RAM files with Firefox. At present when I click on a RAM file in Firefox, it opens Totem, which then tells me it can't read the file in question. I CAN, however, open RealPlayer then paste the location into the "Open Location" box, and read the file as per normal. It would just be nice to get things to work automatically.
Thanks in advance,
S.
P.S. here's the Totem error message:
Totem could not read: rtsp web address
Internal GStreamer error: negotiation problem. Please file a bug at bugzilla etc.
As for the error in Totem: "rtsp://..." is a (proprietary) protocol that Totem actually might not understand, even if you would install additional software.
As for how to make Firefox use RealPlayer instead of Totem, I'm not 100% sure. - To change the file association system-wide, you would right click the .RAM (or other extension) file in Nautilus, and select the program to open it under "Open With...".
Thanks for the quick answer.
I installed RealPlayer10 using the .bin executable file from the RealPlayer site, and things seem to run alright. I have the following files, which I think are RealPlayer files, in the plugins folder for Firefox: libjavaplugin.so nphelix.so nphelix.xpt
It's just that Firefox does not want to open .ram by default with RealPlayer and Totem crashes!
Go to Tools -> Options or Edit -> Options -> Downloads -> View & Edit Actions -> Change Action ->
Make your changes and save settings. Hope this is what you are looking for.
I am om Win XP right now, so the Tools -> Options works here, but I think in Linux it is Edit -> Options.
sigma1, if you could post a link to some web page that contains such an rtsp://...ram link, I could check how my own system is configured to handle this, and maybe advise you further.
Thanks twilli227, that certainly improves things no end. I just have to click on Open in the downloads window and RealPlayer opens to read the .ram file. Thanks robbert, too. For information, the BBC radio pages contain the sort of links I was having trouble accessing (but I am not authorised to post links until the fourth post...).
