Some perceive the semi-annual release to be like a beta and swear by the LTS. Others perceive the LTS as too stale and only promote the semi-annual for regular users.
Just wanna hear some experiences with release upgrading, semi-annual or LTS. Either good, bad, or just unremarkable. How old is your Ubuntu installation? Typically when I read about upgrade issues, it's some PPA or other 3rd party repo causing issues.
People post when they have issues, not when things go well. That, and the giant newb userbase, could be why Ubuntu has a poor upgrade reputation.
My experience with Ubuntu release upgrades has been uniformly positive for well over a decade.
Note that in recent years, I've used only LTS releases, but even back in the Netbook days (I had Dell Netboot with Ubuntu--that's how long ago it was), every upgrade I did while I had that machine worked very smoothly.
I use LTS versions of KUbuntu on all my systems but one. Just nicer for me that way. Don't seem to get get 'stale' over the LTS lifetime... Just works. On my R&D workstation, I upgraded to latest 23.10. No problem with the upgrade process. I was pleasantly surprised as normally there is some cleanup or glitch ... but not this time. Haven't been on KUbuntu very long (a couple years) but back in my Redhat/Fedora Core/Fedora days it was 'try' the upgrade, and then just re-install anyway . Come a long ways.
