The problem is the following:
after hibernation (using the menu for turn off the notebook or the command sudo pm-hibernate in a terminal) at the time of resuming I get a black screen, even though the fans work, and I am forced to restart Ubuntu because I am not able to return to the "saved state".
I have updated my Ubuntu yesterday using Ubuntu SW Center (I think the kernel has been updated).
In the file:
Quote:
logind.conf
in
Quote:
/etc/systemd
I have the entry
Quote:
HandleLidSwitch=hibernate
The current kernel is:
Quote:
uname -a
Linux michele-ubuntu 4.13.0-26-generic #29~16.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 9 22:00:44 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
on my ubuntu, already had that entries (so, I just copied again to make sure I am not wrong!).
I am going crazy!
(Should I renounce, disactivating hibernation, and have just suspension?)
^ sorry, i'm not fully familiar with the solutions offered there.
can you please walk us through what you did there, and how exactly the problem persists?

Thanks for your help ondoho.
Some days ago, I tried to solve the problem of hibernation and, on several pages on web, the proposal was to edit the content in:
. I suppose this has to be done to "activate" hibernation. Now, in the menu (on the right top) for shut down Ubuntu, I can see the hibernation option, but if I try to hibernate, when I try to resume Ubuntu, I get a black screen and I cannot do anything. The command
Code:
sudo pm-hibernate
works, but when I try to exit from hibernation I cannot back to the "saved state" as I expect.
Furthermore, the issue rised up after an update done through the Ubuntu SW Center.
you have to test with 'sudo systemctl hibernate' - testing includes reading the output received closely - in this case, it would be 'systemctl status hibernate.target' or something, after rebooting
I appreciate a lot your effort ondoho!
So, swap size is:
Code:
free -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 7,7G 1,1G 5,5G 236M 1,1G 6,1G
Swap: 7,6G 0B 7,6G

Test done with 'sudo systemctl hibernate', but failed to resume after rebooting (black screen and nothing I can do)

This issue may well be related to your graphics hardware. I note that you appear to have hybrid (Intel/AMD) graphics hardware. Which drivers are you using?

The weird thing is that the issue came up after an update by Ubuntu SW Center done some days ago. Is there a way to check which update have been istalled? I would say a report or something similar.
