Help with NIC and SATA controller

We are building an Ubuntu box to help backup a few servers at work. We put in a Linksys EG1032 Gigabit card, and a Promise FastTrak TX4300 SATA controller card. As of right now Ubuntu(Hoary 5.04) wont see either of them. Can anyone help me out here? I read through some of the forums and it seemed like people had luck with Netgear cards in Ubuntu, but none of them seemed to be gigabit. Also, has anyone installed a SATA controller in Ubuntu with any luck?

Supposedly the NIC uses the National Semiconductor DP83820 chipset which is support in the kernel, but there are some caveats with certain models. I'm not sure if Ubuntu includes the patches described on this page: Jason's 83820 info

As for the promise card, I am not sure it supported in the kernel yet. There is a source driver available from Promise's site: tx4300 driver
