Failed Ubuntu/Windows 8 dual-boot (Can't open Windows)
Hi,
I had Windows 8 on my laptop, and I thought Ubuntu was pretty cool, so I
attempted to dual-boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu. I used a video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWYjZ2j7HrE (Tell me if the video did something wrong) and I installed Ubuntu on a separate partition. Then, I rebooted and somehow didn't see the GRUB menu. I couldn't find a way to boot into my Windows 8, so I opened GParted, the partition editor, and apparently the 2 partitions merged when I attempted to install Ubuntu. Since I have a Windows 8 bootable USB, I am thinking of using it to try to install Windows 8, but I don't know if it will work, since the BIOS doesn't open and I can't check on the boot order. It doesn't let me open BIOS because when I turn on my laptop, I press the key for opening BIOS (In my case, it's F2) about a million times and I still can't open BIOS, it just ignores me and boots into Ubuntu. I am going to try the bootable USB, but what if it doesn't work? D:
I am very mad at myself right now for trying to get Ubuntu as a dual-boot. I really don't know why I tried to do stupid things on my precious laptop, as I am very young and I can't buy those stuff that easy. (Also because I am a gamer and I need pretty good specs on them.)
Please help!
Go here follow the instructions and post the results. http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net If this is a efi system you should be able to press a key, maybe esc or one of the f keys to have other boot options

It looks like you have an efi system and Ubuntu got rid of your windows system. You will need to format a usb key with a vfat partition that is usable by an efi system. If you try to reformat the windows 8 usb to use with your computer you will loose the data on it. You can find several howto's that tell how to create a windows 8 efi bootable usb by googling

Hi,
I just tried the bootable USB, and it said on the screen that a file on the usb was rejected by the secure boot feature or something.
Sorry, I meant I was trying to install Windows 7 from a usb to try to get rid of Ubuntu and have Windows.
So it looks like my settings to boot from USB first is there; but I think I have to find a way to get into BIOS and turn off secure boot, I think.
Please help me.
You will have to hit a keyboard key when the computer first starts and usually the display will indicate what key to hit. It is different between manufactures.
Hi,
I don't know how the hell, but the BIOS button worked!OMG!
I turned off Secure Boot, and I am going to try again.
Last time, the BIOS button didn't work, it just booted straight into Ubuntu.
Thanks, I hope it works!
I don't know why there is a black screen, maybe something went wrong in creating the efi usb. Maybe shutting down the computer and rebooting will fix it but I doubt it if there is something wrong with the usb key.
