Hello, I am running Ubuntu Desktop 20.04.2 LTS Fossa on my Lenovo ideapad 110-17ikb laptop. Half the icons on my desktop disappear and I have to restart the laptop for them to appear again. This happens often. What could be the reason for this and is there a possible fix? This occured with Ubuntu 18.04 and is happening again, after I installed the newer version.
Update:
My mouse and keyboard stop working randomly on Ubuntu as well as Windows 10. If I find a way to wipe my BIOS and install it again, would that help?

If the mouse and keyboard suddenly stop working, such as doing alt-tab, alt-Escape, ctrl-alt-del (If this causes your desktop to lock, for example on Win 10), numlock and caps lock don't turn on/off the LED on your keyboard, then the system has a stability issue.
You also say this happens with Ubuntu and Win 10?
Is this a laptop? Is it overheating? Can you clean the CPU fan (stick a pencil in the fan so that it won't turn and generate a voltage and blow air with a compressor)?
Can you also check your RAM speed/timings? Maybe reduce the speed to 2400 MHz as a first step.

No; based on your other thread, you are simply ignoring the obvious. You don't have a virus, malware, spyware, or 'remote access trojans'...you have flaky hardware. You have an older laptop, and it's going bad, period. Software doesn't fix bad hardware.
Replace the keyboard/trackpad parts of your laptop, or buy a new laptop.

Yes, it is a laptop. How can I check if it overheats? I can search in Youtube how to open it and clean the fan.

The laptop is a little over 2 years old. The warranty is already expired, as it was 2 years. When I said that my keyboard and mouse randomly stop working, I meant the external ones. I tried a different mouse, and the same thing happens.

Again: YOU HAVE FLAKY/BAD HARDWARE. Your options are:
Repair it
Replace it
What else do you need to hear?? AGAIN: software won't fix bad hardware...not BIOS, not a different OS, nothing, period. Fix it or replace it. Simple as that.

Yes, and you will keep changing the parameters of your problem to make them fit your narrative every time somebody points out the obvious.

Yes, the best thing to do to clean it is to open it and then you will e able to blow away dust and pull out dust bunnies.
It's worth a shot.
If that doesn't help, you can swap components if you have a space CPU, some spare RAM.
If the problem is the motherboard, then it is a problem since laptop mobos are expensive and hard to find sometimes.
My computer would freeze , that included the keyboard and mouse, I just upgraded the bios used motherboard's setup via Internet, all problems disappeared,!
