It's a different distro based on Sid, it doesn't get in between updates (xept for security) and tries to bring out a stable release every 6 months. It's not better or worse, it's different.

Does ubunut has better configuration tools (like suse's yast) or not? Except from the packages is there any other difference?

Ubuntu is Debian-based, so it uses apt-get/Synaptic to install software. It doesn't use Debian repositories, though. Even so, the programs should all be about the same. Ubuntu is popular because you don't have to configure everything yourself--it's user friendly. Of course, some people prefer configuring everything "from the ground up." In that case, Ubuntu is not for them.

i am in a similar situation with alaios, using sid, but not necessarily satisfied... i am using linux on a daily basis, and i want a bit more convenience... a friend of mine mentioned ubuntu..

now i am considering if it's possible to morph sid to ubuntu without doing major changes.. (i dont really want to bother setting up madwifi etc again... )

thanks

If you are already comfortable using Debian Sid, stick with it. Ubuntu uses a lot of unstable packages, but it is really meant for new users.
