Could not add app to the application database...

Ok, I downloaded and installed the VLC player to give it a shot. If I open VLC and then direct it to a file, it works great so far. Problem is I can't open a file from Nautilous (or however you spell it) into VLC.

Everytime I try to select it, this is what I get.

I thought maybe it was because I was trying to do it from a file on the samba share but even when trying to make this change from the local drive, the error persist.

All I can say is that have the exact same issue. Can't say I know how to fix it, but if I find out, I'll post.

I had the same problem and figured out a solution yesterday. The directory .local and its subdirecories in your home directory are owned by root and only that account has read/write rights. So try chown it to your account and chmod it to 700 or something like that. Hope it helps.
