Checking "Remember this Application for "xxxx" Files" does not work

Ubuntu 10.04
Gnome 2
Nautilus 2.30.1

Well that's about it! no matter what file of what extension I right click and choose "Open With Other Application" It just doesn't work. I really want it to work because i am creating .jar files and I need to just double-click to run them. I can choose open with java 6 or 7 and it will run them but I just want to click and run them.
Thanks,
Paul

I'm Going to mark this as solved because I found the answer myself I will show it it here in case some one does a search on it

Right click on the file. instead of clicking "Open With" Click on properties
Choose the "Open With" tab and be sure the little dot is beside the program you want to open the file
Click the "Add" Button.
If your program is not in the list you will have to Add it by choosing "Using A Custom Command" and browsing to it.
That's All! You will have to do this for each user.
