@ fragos A "2" is reserved for "/ " AFAIK.
Code:
man fstab
.

It is no error, it is rather the "chmod" in /etc/fstab's mounting sequence but it works inversely => "umask=0000" in /etc/fstab is equivalent to "chmod 777 /my/file" on the console. Again
Code:
man fstab
it is all explained in detail here.
My suggestion of the 2 value is based on my fstab generated by Linux. The only mount with pass 1 was "/" and two other data partitions on that disk are a 2. Pass 1 made sense to me because its "/". I checked out "man fstab" and it left me a little foggy on the subject since its terminology differs from the field labels in the fstab file comments. One of the joys of Linux is there are many ways to do anything with some differing between even releases of an individual distro. To be honest I favor Gnome and GUI applications for making configuration changes. There are of course cases where an editor is the tool of choice. and you can learn more by examining the configuration files.

You were right, sorry for this mistake. I do these things from memory in between my work and sometimes sh*t happens .

Anyhow I checked here http://linux.ctyme.com/man/man0831.htm and here http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man5/fstab.5.html and they concurr with you. So, please randell6564 keep the values as suggested by fragos. Ah, too much haste. Again, sorry.

Making mistakes is how we learn. A world without mistakes is one that doesn't go forward. For the record, my fstab suggestion was a best guess and not infinite wisdom or understanding. With over 1,400 posts I'm sure you've helped a lot people.
