Only issue i have had so far is nvidia video drivers. went to synaptic pkg manager and checked all repos.. apt-get update
then did the restricted driver update.
seems repos are slow but i imagine thats from everyone slamming down new version today.
Have it running fine on my laptop, decided to change my debian sid bos to gutsy kubuntu. Big mistake.
Seems to be a bug with the kernel and on a KT266 MB you cannot have a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse working together. After several keyboards, booting into other live distros (which all work fine) replaced the mouse with an old PS/2 one, after installing with the virtual keyboard.
Kopete crashes when logging into MSN, found an updated kdelibs via the forum.
Kicker refuses to load when I log in to KDE, which is annoying.
Beginning to wish I had not changed. Big step forward in the way it handles stuff like wireless drivers etc., big step backwards in usability as I don't think its ready to install and go just yet. Hopefully Ubuntu will be better than kubuntu.
im noticing that its a little slower then 7.04 it seems to take a little bit longer to boot.
im still having issues getting flash to work
EDIT
downloaded the tar installer from adobe.com
did a ./flashplayer installer.
and boom its workin
Yeah. Not even the failsafe "vesa" driver or normal "nv" driver will allow X server to show anything but a blank screen in the liveCD. I do not know what to do to fix this and no one else seems to know either. I've edited xorg.conf as much as I could, and my last option is to recopy my printed xorg.conf file from my feisty installation into the livecd's xorg.conf and if that doesn't work, I give up and will keep running Ubuntu 7.04 and FreeBSD.
Including the fancy xgl server in the livecd without the drivers necessary to use it is probably one of the biggest distribution mistakes I've ever seen. If they are not allowed to include nvidia-glx on the CD then they should not be trying to include an unusable X-server.
Yes, I'm getting a lot of hiss from my speakers that I didn't have with 7.04. Soundcard is a Creative Labs SB Live! Haven't found a setting that will fix it.
Did anyone do a clean install? Maybe that will work. I have heard here that a clean install works really well, at least from 6.10 to 7.04. Don't know about this version. Trying he upgrade now.
Oh yeah, there are problems with it, the Ubuntu forums are full of complaints about 7.10, the main problems I had with it was it was stuck on "Searching for Mirrors" for well over an hour when I was doing a fresh install of the Server version, the fix ended up being to unplug the network cable (who would have ever thought of that).
I finally got X to work in the livecd and so i was able to do a clean install. The way I install things while keeping /home in tact is that /home is on a different partition than /.
Anyway, for me, everything seems faster than 7.04, especially when I turn the desktop effects on. But I had to turn those off because of some issues trying to run opengl games.
Also, I noticed that for me, it boots up much faster. I see a black screen for a few seconds, and then the login manager appears.
Now I am having another issue: I cannot get openGL applications to run in resolution of 640x480, but higher resolutions work. It is something minor but I'd like to fix it. I think the vert and hor refresh rates in xorg.conf might be set wrong.
No big problems upgrading. Had to update Feisty before upgrade (and burn Gutsy CD because it was requested) but that was it.
The only other difficulty was the NVIDIA drivers but I went to their site and downloaded the most recent. Opened a shell, INIT 1, did the business and back in with gdm.
Any inconvenience will soon be forgotten once you're spinning that 3D desktop cube. Compiz really works in ubuntu now.

I tried a different soundcard and now it works fine. Now if I could get Compiz to work...

I just installed Xubuntu 7.10 and I gotta tell you - it's just slicker than snot on a brass doorknob; and twice as tasty!
I'm seriously thinking of ditching my other distros...
Kopete crashes when logging into MSN, found an updated kdelibs via the forum.
I'm having the same problem. It's only for MSN, for some reason; all the other networks work okay. Where did you find the updated kdelibs? I found something like that on the ubuntu site, but it was actually a lower version than the one I've got (which was version 4.something @_@); an entire version number lower.
I know what compiz is, but where do I find the options for it, running Kubuntu 7.10? I'm a newb, yep. :P
This is my first post. I have been having similar problems.
Feisty has worked well for me and I was looking forward to Gutsy but on attempting to upgrade via Apt, it took most of the day to download the files and then at 38% of installation, when installing Bluetooth, the upgrade hung for hours. Having no idea what to do, I abandoned the upgrade and now have a set up half way between 7.04 and 7.10!
I attempted the live CD route but my monitor (Sampo 15" TFT) shows an out of range message (I have a feeling that this is a refresh rate problem) and I cannot do anything with it. I can boot up the safe mode OK and it recognises my GeForce card.
I have to say I am a little disappointed and Unless someone can help me move onto Gutsy, I shall go back to Feisty for the time being.
I started installing Gutsy when the Beta was released, and had a lot of trouble with the Livecd- hangs, x-video, etc. So I downloaded the Alternate install desktop version and it worked like a champ. Then when the RC and the Release versions came along I made Livecd versions of them and used the cd's as upgrades. The text installer on the Alternate version takes a little more involvement but goes easier on your video hardware.
I have been having a problem with my sound. I have an SB Live! Platinum CT4760P Sound card. Its wierd, sometimes when I boot into Ubuntu it works and sometimes it doesnt, any ideas?
