After a Kubuntu update, Kubuntu can’t reboot

Hello,
I have Kubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.

Does it happen sometimes to you that when Kubuntu does an update, it wants a reboot.
The problem is, when you click Start -> Leave -> Reboot
some thing crashes and it does not reboot.
The only way to reboot seems to be to open a terminal and type shutdown -r

Is this something that can be fixed?

This doesn’t happen after every update. Some updates want a reboot and I am able to reboot but on a rare occasion, there is a failure to reboot.

from Google?

Slightly off topic, everyone should make sure they have their favorite files backed up and in some cases add to your bootloader--rescue mode? Plus, Google...

Just to be clear, I don't mean that after one of these "special" updates, Kubuntu becomes broken and unbootable.
That's why I wrote
"The only way to reboot seems to be to open a terminal and type shutdown -r"
and the OS does the shutdown process and reboot process and WORKS FINE.

It is just bizarre to require a regular joe to open a terminal. I know that you are all experts and been using Linux for 20 y.

Talking

A regular Joe using a computer without an administrator, is the administrator. Paying for an operating system wouldn't fix that tho paying an administrator would.

Someone else may have experienced something close to your issue or could Google more... and, trust me we're not all experts here.
