LXer: Lotus and Linux – the powerful duo arrives early

Published at LXer:

A full year ahead of schedule IBM has brought Lotus Notes to the Linux desktop. A Linux client for Notes wasn’t expected until the arrival of Hannover, the next major release of the Notes platform, in 2007. But Big Blue had a surprise up its sleeve and, earlier this month, it announced the availability of a Linux version of the current Notes 7 client.

Hi

Great news that, I heard that it is downloadable already. Has anybody tried it so far, experiences?
I am still using wine emulation and would like to get away from that evil CPU hogging piece of software.
Ridding my machine of emulation would be great.

Cheers

Markus

Any experiences?

Total Linux n00b here.

I got my new X41 laptop up&running on SLED10, to replace almost all of the application functionality on my current Windoze system - except for the Lotus Notes client (which I need also for plenty of other Domino apps, so cannot e.g. connect Thunderbird to the Domino mail server).

I don't like what I read about wine, I have 768 megs of RAM, but my system feel sluggish enough already, so I would like to make the jump using a native Linux version of Notes.

This seems like a formidable task, perhaps way out of my reach: I am reading through the LQ forums here and there does not seem to be an awful lot of experience. Any pointers?

I am not above reading, so doc is also welcome

Oh, I also have trouble ripping DVDs, but that must be dumb me...
