The Linux Foundation is planning to reduce the length of long-term support (LTS) for new versions of the Linux kernel from 6 years to just 2 years. This change comes as maintaining old kernel versions has become increasingly challenging.*Greg Kroah-Hartman, the maintainer of the stable branch, says the reduction in LTS will allow kernel developers to focus their efforts on more recent versions.
