LXer: Linux Kernel Support Lifespans Cut in Half to Deal with Growing Maintenance Burdens

The Linux Foundation is planning to reduce the length of long-term support (LTS) for new versions of the Linux kernel from 6 years to just 2 years. This change comes as maintaining old kernel versions has become increasingly challenging.*Greg Kroah-Hartman, the maintainer of the stable branch, says the reduction in LTS will allow kernel developers to focus their efforts on more recent versions. Keeping old kernel versions updated has become difficult as hardware and software advance rapidly.*
