The whole notion of splash screens on startup is rather misguided, quaint, overrated, and holds no real value.
That pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter as well. Those messages at boot are a life saver when something goes wrong and you can't even boot into the system to get to dmesg.
I have nothing against "pretty" splash screens at boot, but as someone else mentioned, I'm too lazy to set them up, and they're only scrolling by for less than a minute, big whoop.
