"You have passed an unidentified mode number" How do I get rid of that?
I have a dual boot with windows and linux Suse 10.1. I installed some nvidia drivers for my Gforce 440 MX in windows and after I rebooted the following message appeared.
Filesystem type is reinserfs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/umlinuz
root=/dev/hdb3 vga=031a
resume= /dev/hdb1 splash=silent
[linux -bzimage, setup=0x1e00, size 0x17d272]
initrd /boot/initrd
[linux-initrd@0x1fd86000, 0x259ee9 bytes]
you passed an unidentified mode number
press <return> to see video modules available, <space> to continue...
How do I get rid of that message and show the splash screen from the start? I am new at this, your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help, but How do I get the splash screen back?
Thanks for your help. I tried vga=794,791 and 0x31a but it didn't work. Then I changed it to vga=normal and it works, but how can I get the splash screen back? I don't understand why this happened, I must have screwed something in linux.
After you've changed the framebuffer resolution, you need to run mkinitrd (as root) to include a splashpicture of the new resolution into initrd. However, with vga=normal you won't get any graphical bootsplash. Check this table for other resolutions:
