Question Which version of SuSE?

Hello,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I've got SuSE 9.2, 9.3, 10.0 and 10.1 on my desktop, ready to burn, but I'm not sure which one to install. I've used Xandros for about a year now and I want something different.

Any suggestions? Or warnings?
I've read that 9.2 was easier to configure for nVidia vid cards, which is somewhat important as I have a nVidia card (GeForce 6600GT PCI-E). But on the other hand, 9.3 comes with the new OpenOffice and KDE??
Anyone had any experience with the new 10.x yet?

It sounds somewhat n00bish but I wanted to hear some thoughts from fellow SuSE users.....or should I say, SuSErs?

I would suggest 10. 10.1 is currently an alpha (testing) release and not recommended for production use.

9.2 or 10.0 ---- 9.3 has problems if you have certain Nvidia cards.

10.0 seems stable enough --and being now a Current release will have fixes quicker than for an older release.

9.3 also had some issues with USB mounts and hotplug.

9.2 is old but 100% ROCK SOLID -- so depending on your needs you might consider that one until you can burn a 10.0 set

Cheers

-K

My primary interest is stability, so I will also vote 9.2. I still happily run 9.2 myself (with a new kernel I installed to get some quirky app working).

BTW, 9.2 does come with open office and KDE as well.

Welcome to LQ, YodaCows.

My 2 cents: v9.3

To me, stability is key, and I have very little interest in being on the bleeding edge, so I typically only move to the latest version after its been out for a while. At least in my experience, v9.3 is a very, very nice distro. Assuming you've got the time though, you might want to consider trying them all, then making up your own mind as to which is best

10.0 !!!
10.1 is still alpha and 10.0 is the current release, so more patches to it and more secure!

* I've a Nvidia card and it works PERFECTLY in 10.0

9.3 is good and looks nice and that stuff.

But surely, 9.3 needs a lot of tweaking done to it, to make it a lot faster.

For example, it starts up all the hoopla (personally, i don't require) making it take a long while to boot up.

I have heard that these all problems have been fixed up in the 10.0 release.
The new 10.0 is rated stable, and is faster compared to 9.3 and more efficient as well.

(I will try 10.0 soon, when I find time to get rid of this 9.3 on my compy. )

Agree!! I have right now SuSE 10.0 as Secondary OS (Slack is always prime) And it definitely lacks features compare to 9.3. SuSE 9.3 is still considered Professional Linux, not open project. I still use SuSE 9.3 on Laptop and tell you that maintenance is much easier on 9.3

SuSE is not the "hobbyist's" OS.

It is used equally by Professionals at production units....right to the desktop home user .

Debian is a Hobby OS! (Correct me if I am wrong, I don't know much about Debian's value in the market.)
