i'm very new with Linux, sometimes I have no clue what I'm doing, but I did get the terminal server and a number of diskless workstations working im mine and another teachers classroom. If I can do it you can too.

FIrst fo the the ltsp.org site and look on the righthand side of the page. Click on Installation Instructions: for (LTSP-4.1) . http://www.ltsp.org/ltsp-4.1.html I then opened the ltsp-4.1 PDF file printed all 60 pages and read every word carefully. Do exactly what they tell you and you should get the server working.

After reading th instructions, you will find that the first step is:
.

1. Download and install the ltsp-utils package

RPM
TGZ

(I used the RPM.)

2. As root, run ltspadmin.

3. If you have a previos version LTSP already installed, it is recommended that you install the ltsp-4.1 packages into a separate directory, such as: /opt/ltsp-4.1. You can configure this with the ltspadmin utility.

4. Install ALL of the packages

5. Choose the 'Configure LTSP' menu item, which will cause it to run the ltspcfg utility. Use this utility to setup the services.

I'm using

//http://www.rom-o-matic.net/5.2.5/

to make put the boot rom image onto floppies. Soon I'll get NICs from http://DisklessWorkstations.Com .

It was very much worth the effort for me. A lot of the old machines the school was about to through out are running very nicely and the kids pick up liinux using kde in no time at all

The instructions are very well written. Give it a shot. If you run into trouble post back I'll try to help.

Scot

Thank's again

Listen only to what scottseibel told you:

"...and read every word carefully. Do exactly what they tell you and you should get the server working. "

I got it up and running in one afternoon - an with lots of coffee *lol

The most tricky point for me was to enable my boot-roms on my NICs.
But that won´t be necessary, if you use boot-floppys.

Just download the rpm and follow the instruction.

My only problem with LTSP is the language setting. I googled around an searched the internet, but nothing helped. I need the german keyboard-layout (that drives me crazy).

Hope you get make it running.
