Hi
I've downloaded the ISO image 2 times now (suse-10.3-Eval_DVD.iso and suse-9.3-Eval-DVD.iso{both 188,854kb}) and burnt them using Nero using the slowest burn speed.
The 10.3 iso loads the Kernal but when I get the initial menu I try to check the disk and it states that the disk is "broken"!.
I don't want to push the install on from there (btw this is a AMD64 pc with XP pre installed).
I've got 9.1 personal on my other PC but that was from a shop bought disk/box set, and I had no probs at all.
I'd love to get my AMD64 machine running with Suse but I can't afford the £64.99 price tag for an official box.
I am not sure, but I think that 188Mb is rather small for an evaluation DVD... I have found sizes of 4.5 Gb. Did you try to download the SuSE 9.3 eval version from the Novell site? I suppose those isos should be ok....
yes, I guess you're right, will check again tonight (I did use the Novell site).
However, since looking at this I see that the beta for 10 seems to be getting stabilised, so mabye there will be an official release later this year (I'll save for my Xmas present).

You should have your Christmas present by late September or early October. According to novell, SUSE 10.0 is supposed to have a final release in that date range. I am keeping my eye on it, too. www.opensuse.org has details about the progress of the betas and will have a download section for the final release of 10.0 when they've finished it. I, personally, am looking forward to that.
I see theres a live amd64 9.3 iso available too.
reckon would be wise to have a play on that 1st.
but given 10 is so close I'll wait for that before I do a ful install on my amd64 machine
Had the same problem after downloading the DVD ISO (4.3 Gb ish) - if you're getting a 188Mb image it's because your client can't handle big files - try Filezilla or the like...
Anyway, the ISO I have doesn't match the MD5 check, but boots and runs the installer... bombs out when you actually choose packages to install - there aren't any available!! It fails the media check in the installer too.
Yes I had the same troubles when downloading the DVD... Had something like 3 different foul 9.3 DVD's.... Then I switched to the cd's and that went perfectly!! But I don't have a 64-bit computer, so that makes things kind of easier... Maybe consider the 32 bit version for a while, until better resources are available?
Wanted to avoid the 5 CDs if possible, I'm a bit lazy ;-)
Maybe I'll go buy the boxed product (gasp!) - it's worth the £45 I think for good media and the books, let alone what's actually on the disks. Is 10 far off of release though??
caulfiek - if all else fails, maybe one of the ISO companies have it for a fiver??
Last night I popped open a dos box and rolled by sleeves up for some raw ftp work. I got on to Warwick university's site and downloaded the whole eval iso and the sum check thing (no problems).
I was about to burn it this morning when I heard a thud on the doormat.
Guess what, this months Linux Magazine was delivered and on the cover a spanking new DVD of 9.3 Professional with the new KDE and kernal and loads of stuff (including Oo 2).
Was I happy? as a sandboy...
anyhow the install is real dream, it's picked up my 160gig sata and done the business nicely, leaving windows with 30 gig spare to run around in, and leaving suse 50gigs to play with.
Now it's down to sorting out why my usb mouse freezes and why can't I play MP3s from my C:\Windows\MyMusic directory, and why the screen sometimes slips off the left hand side of my tft monitor and whether I'll be able to plug in my fuji finepix camera or my NETMD Sony player, installing NetBeans, Audacity, MySQL, Tomcat and finding a replacement for MS Money that I can download my account data to etc etc etc (all the fun of Linix).
Anyhow, as I said, run out and get this month's Linux Magazine (or subscribe like me) www.linux-magazine.com.

9.3 picked up my audigy sound card no problems, which 9.1 didn't. The KDE looks great doesn't it?
dual boot is a cinch (even though repartitioning gives me the heabi jeabies something serious)
