What desktop environment are you using? How have you configured compiz to start up?

Thanks for the reply.
The desktop is what ever installs with SuSE 12.1 x64.
Nice enough.
How do you configure compiz to start up?

Last time I installed SuSE, it gave you the option of what desktop environment you want to use. You are likely using gnome or KDE. What is the output of 'cat ~/.dmrc'.

If it's gnome3, as I suspect, then you are probably using gnome-shell by default, which handles window management and compositing. If you want to compiz, then you need to configure gnome to use fallback mode:

http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/g...-fallback.html

Once that is done, you can configure gnome to autostart compiz by adding compiz-manager (assuming opensuse packages it) to your session.
