Segmentation fault during Suse 10.2 install

I have a stable Suse 10.0 system, and I thought I might try upgrading to 10.2.

I found an old 12 Gbyte Maxtor hard disk in my junk box, so I dropped that in so that I could install as "new" without upsetting my existing installation.

The system is an Abit motherboard, VIA chipset, Athlon CPU. NVidia video card.

I have burnt a DVD from the iso.

At first the installer kernel crashed immediately, but then I found that "maxcpus=0" enables it to run.

Now the installer crashes at random places. Sometimes just halts. Sometimes displays a "segmentation fault" error message. Sometimes drops back to a text-mode X-window, saying that there has been an error.

For example:

"Segmentation fault at PackageInstallationycp:148

/usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.call: line462: 3246 Segmentation fault"

To check that the fault isn't with the new hard disk, I have tried doing a new 10.0 install... and that works fine. Only the 10.2 installer crashes.

Any suggestions?

Ok - fixed it. Bad DVD. Reburnt the DVD and did a checksum, and this time it installed with no complaints. None whatsover. It even found my old configuration and did sensible things with it :-)

Incidentally, the xine MP3 installation as in the sticky thread at the top of this forum only works AFTER the first automatic software update is complete. At that point it can be installed without having to go anywhere else for RPMs. Before the first update it results in a lot of dependency violations.
