Problems, problems and more problems
Ok I got some problems.
First problem,
I installed Suse 9.3 Pro, and have no problems during the install and after the install everything worked great. But the second that I did the update via Yast I start having problems. When I try and start Firefox it acts like its going to start then stops. The same thing happens with mozilla and evolution. I realize that its something to do with the update, I'm just not sure what its doing to cause this problem.
Second Problem,
With the same install before and after the update, I have a problem with my networking. I start my machine and it will not connect to the internet but if i do an ifdown for the eth0 and ath0 then do an ifup for ath0 which is my atheros wifi card. The error I get is:
linux:/home/yoma # ifdown eth0
eth0 device: Intel Corporation 82801DB PRO/100 VE (MOB) Ethernet Controller (rev 83)
eth0 configuration: eth-id-00:08:0d:45:c2:d4
linux:/home/yoma # ping 4.2.2.2
connect: Network is unreachable
linux:/home/yoma # ifdown ath0
ath0 device: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
ath0 configuration: wlan-id-00:90:96:82:ee:4e
linux:/home/yoma # ifup ath0
ath0 device: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
ath0 configuration: wlan-id-00:90:96:82:ee:4e
/sbin/ifup-dhcp: line 39: 9354 Segmentation fault ip link set $INTERFACE up ${MTU:+mtu $MTU}
i looked in the ifup-dhcp but could not see anything that looked wrong. I'm not sure if I should put the contents of the ifup-dhcp file. Anyhow does anyone know what could be causing these problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
First You did not mention that in which enviourment all the three applications are closing . is it KDE or GNOME ?
If in both, then you are right, the possible reason of your first problem is "UPDATES". Some times it happens. That new updates clashes with your KERNEL. Don't worry. Just install the previous version of all the applications you are having problem with. Let me tell you that 9.3 is almost updated Linux. So be happy with what you have.
Second explain what kind of Internet you are using. Dial-up, DSL, ADSL or Broadband or Satellite.

Thanks for the quick reply.
ok to answer your first question, im running on KDE. What I will try and do is uninstall the programs and then reinstall from the disks and not do any updates on these apps for a while. If all else fails I can just reinstall the whole thing since I just installed it and dont have anything on it yet.
second question, Im on DSL using a linksys wireless G router. I dont think it has to do with what network i'm connecting to because I have had it happen at work which is a WISP and at home which is DSL and at school which is a T1 so the only thing I can think of is a hardware problem that probably could be fixed with some tweaking. I cant remember if I had this problem when I used 9.1 for a short time before I got my hands on 9.3. I'm wondering if is shouldnt try 9.1 again and see if I have better luck. Any thoughts on the matter. Thanks for the help.
The problem you are having with Firefox is probably caused by a locked file some where in your mozilla profile. The easiest solution is to do an 'rm -Rf' on the .mozilla directory in your home folder (like /home/YOURNAME/.mozilla). This WILL delete any saved bookmarks etc, you have associated with your profile, so in that case first back up the .mozilla folder and then delete it. Copy whatever you need back over it again. (this prob has happend to me 2x with suse 9.3, and I think some update or broken firefox extension was the culprit).

Thanks for the reply
I tryed that and it will not work at all. so i uninstalled it via yast. then downloaded the one directly for mozilla.org and tryed that. it worked good the first time then went down hill from there. I'm thinking that there is something wrong with 9.3. I'm going to try 9.1 and see what comes of that. Thanks for the help.
