Sounds like an issue with printer setup and user permissions. You will have to go into the CUPS printer administration application to try to change the settings so that normal users have permission to print.
Use any browser. In the URL, enter 'http://localhost:631' to get into the CUPS admin application. I haven't had occaision to access that in quite some time. I beleive you click on Administration or Printer Management. At any rate, once in the application, you can snoop around looking for a solution.
